Teen Fashion

Teen fashion is one of the leading subdivisions of the fashion world. Teenage girls, though boys are gaining an interest, always seem to be looking for the next trend; the next thing to make them look fabulous. To teenagers fashion is more than a look, it is a rite of passage. Often times to be accepted into certain groups, you must wear a certain style.

Teenagers will get their hands on the latest fashions any way they can. In person is preferable, as teenagers love walking around the mall and browsing. Online shopping is gaining popularity though. As it’s getting easier to navigate around the web and look at more than one thing at a time online shopping is steadily gaining the lead over brick-and-mortar shops.

The latest trends are often sought after by teens because they feel the need to be “in”. Being “in” means to be up to date on current trends, and to own and flaunt them with a special flare. Sometimes articles of clothing only have time to be worn once or twice before they are “out” of style!

Often times teen fashion is not as expensive as adult fashion. It’s harder for teenagers to find jobs to support their buying habits, and their parents probably don’t pay for every piece of clothing they ask for. Teen fashion can hit rock bottom prices that someone would never find in an adult clothing store. Teen fashion also focuses on being more “cute” or “hip” than the usual professional quality looked for in adult fashion.

Though not quite as into the latest trends as females, male teens have gotten more into fashion in the past few decades. Ever since the 1980s explosion of fashion it has been more acceptable for males to care about their looks. And with the boy bands of the 1990s male teenagers found role models they could look up to.

To say that fashion is stagnating would be a fallacy. Teenagers are beginning to lead the way into the fashion world. Designers are getting younger and younger and the articles they create are getting more and more creative and expressive. Teenagers care more about their fashion than adults often give them credit for. They care about their appearance as much, if not more than adults.

The teenage fashion industry will continue growing and evolving in the coming years; with the teenagers themselves leading the way.
